The Male Lead’s Backyard is on Fire – Chapter 87: An Embrace (Pt. 1)

Chapter 87 (p.1)

Yuchi Li[1]Her surname is made of two characters, 尉迟, pronounced Yuchi, not Weichi. bit her lip tightly, as if she could already taste blood. The blood and fear invaded her mind, but she did not care. She only wanted to be faster, even faster.

If something happened to Liu Luoyi, she would never forgive herself.

After walking for an unknown amount of time, she saw a group of people tangled together nearby. Bodies littered the ground, blood pooling around them. Yuchi Li immediately landed and reached out a hand, snatching An Ge from the fray.

“Where’s Xiao Liu’er[2]小 xiao means little, the suffix ‘er’ is a form of endearment?” Yuchi Li said hoarsely. She herself did not notice that her eyes were red, but she frightened An Ge silly.

“There were too many pursuers. I fell back here, Xin Ran brought her ahead.” An Ge shouted and felled soldiers simultaneously.

“Sister, stay here.” Before finishing her words, she disappeared into thin air like the wind. Yuchi Die ran a few steps after her but could not follow her. She could only stamp her foot in frustration and turn to go help An Ge.

As she used her qinggong to dash forward, she scanned all around, afraid of missing her.

If Liu Luoyi and the others had fled into the grasslands—into that vast land—how would she find her? Yuchi Li was uneasy, so she could only move faster. After traveling a great distance, she at last saw the silhouettes of some people. However, when she drew close, her heart bottomed out.

It was Xin Ran. She was lying unmoving on the ground, bits of grass scattered over her body. Yuchi Li ran up to her and knelt down, anxiously taking her pulse.

Fortunately, her heart was still beating. Her body also did not have any external injuries. She looked like she had only fainted.

“Xin Ran, Xin Ran!” Yuchi Li shook her forcefully. Seeing that she did not wake, she grabbed the canteen at her waist and poured it on her face.

This move was very effective, as she saw Xin Ran’s body jerk, and she suddenly opened her eyes.

Yuchi Li did not wait for her to fully wake up before pulling her up and, doing her best to enunciate clearly, said: “Where did Xiao Liu’er go?”

“Liu, Miss Liu, princess…” Xin Ran shook her head, her gaze still muddled, “The people pursuing us came and scattered some sort of substance. I lost consciousness. I-I don’t know where Miss Liu went…”

Hearing these words, Yuchi Li’s heart burned with anxiety. She almost passed out on the spot. She placed a hand on the ground to steady herself.

“I will go look.” She rasped. Yuchi Li stood up, grabbing a random blade from the ground. She clenched the blade’s hilt and strode forward.

Xin Ran unsteadily rose to her feet. Looking all around her, she realized that she had charged straight into a disaster. She ran up behind Yuchi Li uneasily and whimpered: “Princess, I’m sorry. I didn’t protect Miss Liu well. I will go with you.”

“It has nothing to do with you.” Yuchi Li murmured. Her eyelashes trembled, and as her hair hung down, covering half of her face, her expression was concealed from others.

The continuous line of greenery in front of them was dizzying. Tough grass swayed in the constant wind. With the occasional flower dotting the landscape, the scene was quite beautiful, but for the first time, Yuchi Li only had the sudden impulse to burn it all to the ground.

She wandered aimlessly in search. She covered the nearby area, then even entered the corpse-strewn battleground on a harrowing hunt for a glimpse of possibly-stained pure white.

Nothing. There was nothing. Yuchi Li did not know whether to laugh or cry; she only felt herself gradually losing her senses. She searched unceasingly, calling out Liu Luoyi’s name.

In the end, she shouted herself hoarse and lost her voice. Fortunately, Yuchi Die pushed her to the ground and forced her to drink some water.

Yuchi Li laid down, touching the cold soil. With the refreshing scent of the green grass, a thought shot through her mind. If Liu Luoyi had fallen into those monsters’ hands, then she…she just wanted to throttle herself now.

She was the one who brought her. She was the one who lost her.

Yuchi Li suddenly balled up her fist and brought it up to her mouth. She bit down hard until her entire hand was covered in blood and Yuchi Die ripped her hand away.

“Yuchi Li! You’ve gone mad!” Her hair falling loose, Yuchi Die panted as she shouted piercingly, making Yuchi Li’s eardrums hurt.

“We still haven’t found her, which proves that she is fine. Furthermore, Liu Luoyi is extremely intelligent. Those people didn’t hurt Xin Ran, which also proves that Liu Luoyi drew them away. She’s so brave, and you’re this scared?” Yuchi Die saw that Yuchi Li had finally stopped struggling, so she pressed her whole body down on top of her to prevent her from doing something foolish.

Xin Ran, who was originally sobbing off to the side, heard this, and then leaned onto An Ge’s back and started bawling.

“I’m sorry…” More of Xin Ran’s tears leaked out as soon as she wiped other tears away.

“Also, we just returned to the village where the soldiers are quartered. We’ve scoured the area and haven’t seen her. If they caught her, they would’ve brought her back here.” Yuchi Die yelled in Yuchi Li’s ear and smacked her on the shoulders twice, “Get up now!”

Yuchi Li squeezed her eyes shut, then nodded. Upon seeing this, Yuchi Die jumped off of her.

Yuchi Li slowly sat up. She silently wiped her bloody hand on her clothes, then used her sleeve to wipe away the sweat-streaked makeup covering her face.

She kept her face lowered the entire time, not saying a word.

Her whole body seemed to be infused with a jumble of grief and fury: an unbearable sight. Yuchi Die wanted to reach out her hand and pat her on the shoulder, but her hand halted in midair, her eyes flashing with sadness.

“The forest.” Yuchi Li said abruptly.

“What forest?” Yuchi Die glanced at An Ge, then suddenly frowned, “You’re saying that Liu Luoyi ran into the forest? How do you know that she didn’t run into the grasslands?”

“She’s not that foolish.” Yuchi Li’s voice was very thin and fragile. She released the hilt of the blade and pulled out her own dagger from at her waist.

Li Luoyi could not run fast. It was impossible for her to be stupid enough to run to a flat area, and this place was quite close to the forest. Only by running into the forest could she hope to throw off the pursuing soldiers.

“But the forest is enormous and full of wandering roads. If she didn’t know the roads, she would lose her way as soon as she entered. Not to mention that the entire forest is surrounded by the Yan Kindgom’s soldiers. Liu Luoyi…” As she spoke, the worry in Yuchi Die’s eyes deepened.

“When she rushed in, reinforcements had not arrived yet. The encirclement is small, only making sure that the people inside do not escape. They might not be able to stop someone from going in. And I feel that Xiao Liu’er would have a way.” Yuchi Li said.

“So you want to go in now?” Yuchi Die’s brows twisted together.

En.” Yuchi Li answered with absolute frankness.

A word from the translator:

Hi y’all, I saw that this has not been updated on NU in a long time and thought the story was quite nice. Chapters 1-86 were translated by HeftyChonk, but they have not updated since April 2021? I hope they are doing well! If someone has already picked up this translation or wants to pick it up, be my guest!

I translated the first part of chapter 87 to see if people are interested in seeing the story continue. If there’s interest, I’ll see about getting some more chapters translated. I have no schedule and no promises, but this novel is only 110 chapters, so hopefully the translation will be completed some day!

Edit 2022/08/05: I have translated the second part now!

  1. Thanks for picking this up. Tho, it’s been a long time since I’ve read the past chapters and I’ve mostly forgotten what happened lol

  2. Thanks for the chapter. I noticed that you made a little tiny mistake, the MC, Wei Chi Li, has for surname/last name Wei Chi and her first name is Li.

So writing Wei Chili like this is not correct.

    1. Thank you for pointing that out! I looked it up, and it seems the pronunciation of 尉迟 should also be different…
I will update it here, but will keep it as Weichi instead of Yuchi because of the previous chapters. Thank you again!!!

      1. I also looked it up again because I wasn’t sure about the pronounciation of 尉迟. After checking on baidu and some qq articles, I found out that as a last name 尉迟 = Yuchi, but if it’s just 尉 as last name, then it should be Wei.
But as you said, for consistency just keep it as Weichi. It will be too much of an hassle to update everything.

Thank you also for pointing out the pronounciation, I didn’t know that! I learnt new stuff too, thanks!

        1. Thanks again for letting me know! It was good to catch that early on. If you have anything else to add/correct later, feel free to drop a comment again!
